Hobart and William Smith Colleges are very excited to announce the details of the 2007 Kids College Summer Camp! This year, Kids College will have two new leaders - a husband and wife pair of teachers who are alums and parents alike. John '95 and Carin (Caravita '92) Cunningham, who teach at Geneva's North Street Elementary School, are the new Kids College Directors.

CAMP DIRECTORS
Carin (Caravita) Cunningham '92
Graduated from DeSales High School in 1988, William Smith College in 1992 with a B.A. Major in English and Education minor. She received her M.S. in Education from University of New England in 2003 and holds permanent certification. Cunningham has taught grades 3-5 since 1995 and currently teaches 4th grade at North Street Elementary in Geneva. She serves as Representative on Gifted and Talented Consortium (2 years) and currently on committee to re-establish Gifted/Talented/Enrichment Program in Geneva. She serves on the District Literacy Team, and has established Helping Hands Community Service group. She is co-leader of Student Council at North Street, Ski Club Advisor, Little League Softball Coach and YMCA Soccer Coach.

John Cunningham '95
Graduated From Francis Lewis High School, Queens, NY in 1986 and Hobart College in 1995 with a Major in Psychology. He received his Masters from Nazareth College in 2001 and holds permanent certification in Regular and Special Education. He is also certified in Literacy Collaborative from Lesley University 2005 and has taught grades 4-5 since 1995. He is currently the Literacy Coordinator at North Street Elementary for grades 3-5. He serves on the District Literacy Team, Building Literacy Team and Site Council, at NSS Lake Deleware Boys Camp, Delhi NY and has been the Assistant Director for 7 years. He is also a Ski Club Adviser.

JULY 9 - 13
VISUAL ARTS WEEK


• Study the styles of popular artists including Georgia O’Keefe and Pablo Picasso.
• Go on virtual field trips to art museums and Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua to provide additional inspiration.
• Combine your efforts into an expressive art form to be framed and taken home.


JULY 16 –20
HISTORY WEEK


• Stories of New York state residents from previous decades
• VField trips to Seneca Falls, Genesee Country Village in Mumford
and a ride on an Erie Canal boat will lay the foundation for interactive visits from national leaders from days gone by.
• There will be an optional overnight trip for the oldest camper group to visit and learn about the state Capital in Albany and New York City.


JULY 23 – 27
DRAMA WEEK


• Campers will be moving while learning the nuts and bolts of dance technique, painting, drawing and theatrical performance. Each afternoon will be devoted to set construction, costume design and performance itself. The final performance will be Friday afternoon, and parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend.


JULY 30 – AUGUST 3 SCIENCE AND NATURE LOVERS WEEK


• Science experiments will be paired with visits to the Sciencenter in Ithaca, a picnic and hike up the gorge to Taughannock Falls near Trumansburg; and the shale trail through Watkins Glen State Park. Students will also share team-building exercises at the Cayuga Nature Center’s ropes course.


AUGUST 6 – AUGUST 10
CELEBRATE ME WEEK


• Create a scrapbook of memories and souvenirs, guided by an experienced practitioner. Each camper’s remembrances will be augmented by a journal covering friends found, trips taken and lessons learned.
• A field trip to the National Museum of Play will be followed by a graduation ceremony and art exhibit, with a dessert reception afterward.
