Submission Information

Seneca Review reads manuscripts of poetry, translations, essays on contemporary poetry, and lyric essays between September 1st and May 1st annually. We do not publish fiction. Manuscripts received during the summer months are returned unread. We recommend submissions of 3-5 poems and essays up to 20 pages. We generally respond to submissions within twelve weeks.

Send all manuscripts to Deborah Tall, Editor, Seneca Review, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, NY 14456.

Due to the great number of manuscripts we receive, we ask that you limit yourself to just one submission during our annual reading period (September 1- May 1). We can then give all submissions the attention they deserve.

Please note that we do not accept manuscripts electronically and that we do not wish to receive simultaneous submissions. All submissions must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope in order to be returned. If you don't wish to have your manuscript returned, please indicate that in a cover letter and supply a stamped envelope or postcard for our reply.

Although we cannot pay authors for work published, we provide two copies of the issue in which your work appears and a complimentary two-year subscription. Copyright is held by Hobart and William Smith Colleges until publication, at which time rights revert to the author.

To get a sense of our editorial interests, we suggest you read a recent issue of the magazine. Sample copies are available for $7 each. Fill out the following to receive your sample copy, or order a subscription to Seneca Review.
