IT Services Teams
»Instructional and Research Technology
The Instructional and Research Technology team, located in the library, provides resources and services to promote the use of technology in the teaching and learning environment. In service to the Colleges’ mission, the staff, led by Holly Morris-Kuentz, supports technology integration in the curriculum by partnering with faculty to develop and enhance the use of instructional technologies and to support exploration of emerging learning technologies.
The staff places a high value on delivering personalized service and maintains the Technology Resource Center as a drop-in location for individual training sessions on commonly used software and technology-related course assignments as needed for faculty, students and staff. The Resource Center also has available technology equipment, such as scanners, video editing stations, CD/DVD burning and duplicating, for individuals to use on their own or with assistance. Stop by the Resource Center in the library for individual support tailored to your needs. Contact us by e-mail at instructionaltech@hws.edu or by phone at ext. 4420 to arrange an in-class or out-of-class workshop.
»Network and Systems Infrastructure
The Network and Systems Infrastructure Team delivers core information technology services to the Colleges. They support data and telephony connectivity; administer fundamental systems and applications; and design, build, maintain and document the College's system infrastructure.
Team members manage campus connectivity by overseeing a network comprised of 6,000 data ports; 2,300 telephone ports; and 200 wireless access points. They also service the campus' network and telephone switches located in every campus building. The team is responsible for the Colleges' server facility that contains its central computing systems. They manage servers, data storage, e-mail, applications, databases, Web sites, and other campus systems that impact the Colleges' ability to connect and collaborate with the HWS community.
»Operations and Technical Support
Located in Williams Hall, the Operations and Technical Support team of IT Services is comprised of several support-based initiatives, led by Kelly McLaughlin. The help desk, staffed primarily by students, is the hub for all IT-related phone calls and e-mails, as well as computer drop-off and pick-up. Computer technicians troubleshoot and repair software and hardware, both in-house and on campus. Classroom and Event Support technicians set up Smart Classrooms and are responsible for audio/visual needs. In addition, the telecom branch of the team is responsible for phone and voicemail services.
Because the Operations and Technical Support team covers such a wide variety of IT needs, we operate under one universal phone number for support: ext. HELP (4357). This one-number system best enables the team to support the campus community and allows our HWS colleagues to have a single point of contact. In addition, we offer Web-based support via our online work-order submission form as well as e-mail at helpdesk@hws.edu.
