Miriam Brehmeyer Dahlke

Hematologist for the Red Cross Blood Service

In 1955, Dahlke began her medical career as an intern at the Philadelphia General Hospital, followed by one year of Pathology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, returning to the Philadelphia General Hospital for a residency in Internal Medicine. This was followed by a fellowship in Hematology with Dr. Philip Custer and Dr. Elizabeth Merteas.

In 1961, after her certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine, she held a variety of positions for 11 years at Philadelphia General Hospital: she was assistant chief in clinical microscopy, chief of blood bank and special hematology, and senior attending physician in the department of medicine of the University of Pennsylvania division.

Dahlke completed her subspecialty certification in hematology in 1972 and her certification in blood banking in 1973. Dahlke became the medical director of the Penn-Jersey Regional American Red Cross Blood Service. In 1980, she worked as the clinical assistant professor of medicine for the University of Pennsylvania's school of medicine until her retirement in 1987.

She currently resides in Newton Square, Penn., with husband Andrew Dahlke.
