Will K. Weinstein

Author of "There Is No They," which discusses his own battle with prostate cancer

As a gifted Hobart student in the late 1950s, Will K. Weinstein became interested in business and ethics -- two areas that have served him well and in which he has, in turn, served others.

His time on this campus was filled with activities that would later distinguish him as one of the leading proponents and practitioners of business ethics in our country. A Dean's List student who was elected to the Orange Key, Chimera and Druid societies, Weinstein was active in Beta Sigma Tau fraternity and the Interfraternity Council, and was vice president of the Board of Control. He was also involved with organizations on campus such as WEOS, ECHO, The Herald and the Philosophy and Psychology clubs, and played baseball and soccer.

After graduation, Weinstein received a master's degree in psychology from the Ohio State University and served in the United States Air Force Reserves.
His 40-year professional life in included positions such as governor of the Midwest Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange. A member of the executive committee of Oppenheimer and Co., Weinstein later held the position of managing partner with Montgomery Securities. In 1986 he became the investment and financial policy adviser to the Pritzker family in Chicago and in 1989 became Chairman and CEO of Genesis Merchant Group Securities until it was sold in 1997. Throughout the years he has managed hedge funds and private equity partnerships, and today serves as financial adviser to a number of individuals and corporations.
Currently, he serves on the advisory board of a number of businesses and health-care organizations. He spends a substantial portion of time advising individuals and groups on issues related to the care and treatment of prostate cancer, of which he is a survivor. He is the author of "There Is No They," which discusses his own battle with the disease.

His dedication to health issues, as well as his business ethics acumen, have made Weinstein a sought-after speaker at conferences and on college and university campuses nationally and internationally. He also has delivered health-care commentaries on radio and television. In addition, he is intensely involved with a wide variety of civic organizations in his hometown of San Francisco.

A dedicated alumnus, Weinstein has served this institution well as a former member of the Board of Trustees. He recently moderated a panel in New York City for a discussion of ethics with alumni, alumnae, parents and friends of the Colleges, and addressed an undergraduate class and the Hobart Student Government. He has provided access to the Colleges through the establishment of two endowed scholarships in honor of his parents, and received an Alumni Citation from Hobart in 2003.
