Art de Cordova has distinguished himself by the service he rendered to the Colleges, to the community, and to our country. He served as secretary and president of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, a member of the Interfraternity Council, Canterbury Club and the Corinthian Yacht Club. He graduated from Hobart in 1956 with a degree in psychology and currently lives in Nokomis, Florida, with his wife Jerri.
It was through Hobart that de Cordova first participated in the United States Air Force ROTC. From 1956 to 1959 he served in the United States Air Force in Alaska, achieving the rank of Captain.
After his military service, de Cordova returned to the state of New York to work on Wall Street with de Cordova, Cooper and Co. His visionary business sense helped the company become an industry leader specializing in IBM and other top stocks. He soon became a prominent member of the New York Stock Exchange, awarded with the title Floor Official, and was an officer of the NY Stock Exchange Club. When de Cordova retired as a senior partner from his firm in 1990, he left behind an impressive twenty-nine year legacy on Wall Street. His decades of experience continue to serve him well, and de Cordova currently sits on the advisory committee of the Exchange Members Association.
Art de Cordova is a dedicated supporter of the Colleges and its mission. No matter how hectic the pace of Wall Street, de Cordova always found time to participate in the Hobart Club of New York or attend off-campus alumni events. He continues to generously support his alma mater.
Art de Cordova has continued to practice his closely held values of good citizenship and public service. He is a dedicated supporter and volunteer at the Special Olympics, where he has a powerful impact on the lives of hundreds of young people every year.
In 1956, as Art de Cordova was preparing to leave Hobart College with his degree, a faculty member pulled him aside and challenged him to “go make something of life.” In his time with us and throughout his long career, de Cordova has lived these words to the fullest.
