He continued his education at Northwestern University, where in 1962, he received a master-of-arts degree in public administration.

Following his tenure at the institution, Bridwell returned to his alma mater, first serving as director of the new bureau (1951-55) and then, from 1955-57, as director of development.
Since leaving the Colleges, Bridwell has held post as assistant to the director of development at Northwestern University (1957-59), vice-president of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (1959-63), and as director of the development at Northwestern University (1963-70).
Having served the Mayo Foundation development program since its inception in 1970, Bridwell has been a part of the driving force which has raised over $120 million in gifts and pledges to open a new medical school and provide facilities and endowments for education and research. He has also been a frequent lecture, panelist, and consultant for professional conferences, and educational institutions, including Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
