Student-Athlete
Advisory Council

History

Through the leadership of the late Bill Stiles ’43, in 1979 Hobart College established the Hobart Student-Athlete Advisory Council, one of the first NCAA Division III student-athlete advisory committees. Student-athlete advisory committees (SAAC) are comprised of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that impact student-athletes’ lives on campus.

All NCAA member institutions are required to have a SAAC on their campus, as are member conferences. The NCAA has also established national SAACs for each of its Divisions – I, II, and III.

At Hobart, the SAAC includes representatives from each team and provides a valuable communications link between the student-athletes and the athletic administration. Athletic Director Mike Hanna '68 serves as the facilitator and is assisted by Kevin DeWall '00 , assistant football coach.

The Hobart SAAC plays a valuable role in planning the annual Napier Leadership Seminar and in planning and participating in public service projects such as Red Ribbon Week, the Statesmen Food Drive, and Camp Onseyawa fundraisers.
