Carol
Weymuller has been at the helm of the Hobart
tennis program since 1995. Under her guidance, the Statesmen have compiled
a 111-109 record, including a 17-3 mark in 2003-04, a school record
for wins in a season.
The 2004 Liberty League Coach of the Year, Weymuller led the Statesmen
to the Liberty League title in 1996 and 2004. In recent years, she has mentored seven All-Liberty League singles picks, and 10 All-Liberty League doubles selections, including the 2004
Liberty League Co-Player of the Year, Peter Pine ’05.
Widely respected and renowned as an exceptional teacher of the
game, the U.S. Tennis Professionals Association honored Weymuller
with its 2002 Tex Schwab Lifetime Achievement Award.
Also the coach of the Hobart squash program, Weymuller’s
teams have consistently been ranked in the top-20 nationally, while posting a record of 117-122. In 1994, Weymuller
and her husband, Fred, received the U.S. Squash Racquets Association’s
President’s Cup, the most prestigious award USSRA presents.
Weymuller earned bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and elementary
education from Bethany College in 1970. Upon graduation, she worked
as a tennis and squash professional at the Heights Casino in Brooklyn,
N.Y., from 1970 through 1980, followed by a stint at the Genesee
Valley Club in Rochester, N.Y., through 1993. From 1993 through
1995, she was the squash professional at the University of Rochester
Medical Center Athletic Club and the tennis professional at the
Country Club of Rochester.
As a player, Weymuller was a four-year member of the men’s
varsity tennis team at Bethany. She helped the Bison win conference
championships in 1967 and 1968 and appeared in Sports Illustrated’s
“Faces in the Crowd.” As a junior player, she was nationally
ranked as high as fifth and won the Orange Bowl championship three
times. In 1968, she was a member of the Junior Wightman Cup Team
and played in the first U.S. Open at Forest Hills. The following
year, she was co-ranked as the No. 1 woman in New England. In 1973,
Weymuller won the USPTA National Singles Championship.
Assistant Coach Rich Lenhart
Since the 1998-99 season, Rich Lenhart has served the Hobart tennis program as an assistant coach.
Lenhart holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Oswego and a master’s degree from Shenandoah (Va.) University. Since 1986, he’s taught mathematics and computers at St. Michael School in Newark, N.Y. In addition, he’s currently head of the tennis programs for the Geneva Recreation Department.
A former Newark High School Section V Class B doubles champion, Lenhart co-captained the 1984 Oswego State men’s tennis team. He’s active in local doubles tournament competition, and is a resident of Newark, N.Y.
