Signing
up a Team
To
sign up for intramurals you can register your team on-line when the
reminder message is sent. Look for flyers around campus announcing
Intramural Sign-ups at the start of each semester, or call the IM
Office at 3901 to find out when sign-ups will take place. YOU MUST
ORGANIZE A TEAM OR JOIN ANOTHER CAPTAIN'S TEAM FOR INTRAMURAL
COMPETITION. INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS WHO ARE NOT A PART OF A TEAM
MAY
LEAVE NAME WITH IM DIRECTOR. IF POSSIBLE WE WILL FORM TEAMS FROM
INDIVIDUAL SIGN-UPS. To form a team you should ask friends, hall
mates, classmates, club members, etc. Fill out the roster with all
the members of your team and return it to the Intramural Area.
Finally, the captain of each team must attend the Intramural
Captain's Meeting for his/her team's sport.
Captains'
Responsibilities:
- Attend mandatory captain's meetings.
- Validate roster for
eligibility (see eligibility)
- Assist the IM coordinators
in maintaining control of team.
- Check in with
supervisors prior to each contest to pick up equipment. (if
applicable)
- Make sure your team is on time for your
match.
- Be responsible for your team's knowledge of
game/event rules.
- Serve as a liaison between your team
and the IM staff.
- The winning team captain must contact
the intramural department within 12 hours of event to inform them of
score if no officials were present.
Eligibility Guidelines:
- Must have a current, valid HWS ID card, and be a
full time
matriculated undergraduate student, or be an employee of the
colleges (including Sodexho.)
- All activities
are open to both men and women unless stated otherwise.
- Divisions include OPEN, CO-REC, and WOMENS. Each league is
assigned a
time and day to play. A participant can be a member
of more than one team in an activity if the teams are in
different divisions. For example, a person may play soccer on
one open, on
co-rec and one single gender team.
OPEN:
Open to all students, no restrictions or requirements
CO-REC:
Requires two females on the playing surface at all times.
WOMEN:
Only females may participate.
All participants must meet the eligibility requirements without
exception.
- A participant is not eligible to
play in an IM activity if he or she practices with or competes as
a member of a varsity or junior-varsity team in that
activity. This includes seniors who have practiced or
competed with the Varsity or Junior Varsity team in that activity for
that academic year.
- Teams playing
with an ineligible person(s) will forfeit those contests and that
team or individual may be subject to suspension from further
Intramural activity.
- Team captains are
responsible for ascertaining the eligibility of each player and
opponent.
- A person must be on a team roster to
be eligible to play; no roster adjustments may occur after two
weeks of play in that particular activity. It is imperative to
communicate any roster changes with the intramural department.
-
While it is the responsibility of each player to insure
that the
game atmosphere is friendly and in good nature, it is
ultimately the captain's responsibility to curb any
behavioral (verbal or physical) issues between his/her
teammates, the officials, and/or opposing team. These issues should
be addressed as soon as the inappropriate behavior occurs. Team
expulsion as well as a report to the respective dean may
result
in situations where poor sportsmanship is
exhibited.
Forfeits
If a team fails to report to the scheduled place within 10 minutes
after the scheduled contest time, the official may declare the contest
forfeited to the opponent. If both teams fail to be ready, both will be
charged with a forfeit. To obtain a contest of victory by forfeit, the
full line-up must be present and ready to play. A team shall forfeit
any contest in which a player participates under an assumed name.
Entry
Fee
There
are no entry fees for regular league play in the Intramural Sports
Program; however, designated special events may require an
entry fee for participation.
Play-Offs
Playoffs
occur at the conclusion of the season in each recognized activity.
During playoffs games teams are seeded against each other in a single
elimination tournament based upon the season records. Teams should
be prepared to play on any day of the week during the playoff
period. Occasionally, additional rules may be implemented for the
play-offs.
Awards
Intramural
Champion T-shirts are awarded to each member of that team (according
to the roster). Comparable awards may be provided for
champions of individual events or smaller teams.
