The John Topichak '71 Memorial Team Room is the off-the-field home of the Hobart football and lacrosse teams. It was officially dedicated following the Hobart-Rochester football game on Oct. 6, 2001. Featuring beautifully handcrafted wood lockers, a new heating and air conditioning system, new carpeting, and a high-tech video system for breaking down film, the room honors the life of John Topichak.

A locker encased in glass, permenantly displays Topichak's football jersey. His wife, Christine, and son, Nicholas, can be seen in the reflection of this picture taken during the dedication ceremony.

A member of the Hobart Hall of Fame Class of 2001, Topichak was a three-time lacrosse All-American for the Statesmen, while earning three letters in football and serving as a resident adviser. The superintendent of schools for the Weedsport School District, he died of a rare liver disease on Dec. 1, 1999, while awaiting a liver transplant. An outstanding student-athlete and community member, the room will serve as a lasting reminder of the contributions Topichak made to Hobart College and to his profession.
